For all those who had gripes about lack of class customization. T:A will be putting the capability to alter your class in soon. Further, new weapons will be coming as well as some 'old ones', such as the energy sniper rifle from Tribes 2 (or something similar).

while this offer is very tempting I just don't see how TA is going to be a good comp game with it's pay to unlock design.

I would lov and hoped TA would bring back the T2 days of comp play I just don't see that happening when teams who have unlocked load outs can play against teams who have not unlocked load outs ...... where would the balance be in comp play?

if this is fixed in release or future patch/game designs, then by all means I would lov to do another Tribes team, but unless that happens on a release lvl then I just don't know ....

thoughts?

I'm very happy with the development in TA. I think it has potential and I expect clan participation and competition to be every bit as popular as it was in T2.

Are there any [HOR] members which are interested in this prospect?

Well, Doomsaber is now also doing the beta for Tribes as well. We managed to get him running with a new rig because he had liked what he saw so far.

To clarify, this phase of testing is still under NDA and is not open to the public. I like the game a lot. I've been working on upgrading the Pathfinder and Juggernaut classes but have a long way to go before they're maxed out. Base raping in the Heavy is as fun as ever. I'm finding a hard time hitting the MA's.

Couple quick updates : They've lowered the cost on a few of the different load outs and it helped me TREMENDOUSLY.

I now have the default 2 mediums (ranger & assault) plus the cheapest light (pathfinder I think 1200 tokens? attainable in a weekend) & heavy armor (juggernaut 900 tokens - possibly attainable in a single good night).

Capping as a medium wasn't impossible but capping as a light is a hell of a lot better. Now that I've had a taste of the other armors I'm MUCH more likely to spend the money and buy other armors... except I'll be playing a shit-ton of BF3 come December 25th.

I agree with the review whole-heartedly. The game is fantastic. I just wish they'd have done the "pay for load outs" somehow differently. While I realize they have to make money off this great game some how. And EVERYTHING is still attainable without paying... and it's MEANT to be hard and take a while. To encourage you to pay for the load outs.

But I'd rather pay 40$-60$ for a game and just get everything at once than piece meal the load outs. But whatever. I'll play for free and be happy

I was shocked when I happened to stumble onto T:A yesterday. I've been out of the loop in video games circles the last several years and really ever since T2 died.

I'm gonna to get into the Beta.

Sabre, great review. I hope though that you're wrong on some of your opinions. Maybe they will change some things. It is a beta. The whole play for free thing seems to be an industry trend and I'm not involved enough to understand its implications but I really hope this game can replicate the magic that T2 had. Of course if that happens I might lose my job, my house and my family in a quest for domination.
